Freckle / Lentigo (Age Spot)

Freckles (Ephelid) appear after sun exposure in light-skinned people. Lesions in the form of round or oval brown spots with well-defined borders; It is seen especially in the upper middle parts of the face, shoulders and chest in people with red hair and light skin.

Age spots (SenileLentigo) are permanent, benign, round or oval, brown spots that appear on sun-damaged skin. Typically, in elderly patients, the dorsum of the hands, cheeks and forehead are the most affected areas.

Sun protection reduces the number of new lesions that will form. Locally applied lightening creams (containing hydroquinone, tretinoin, adapalene), chemical peeling, cryotherapy and laser treatments are treatment options that can be applied.

Laser Freckle Treatment

Freckles (ephelides) are small brown spots that are mostly seen in people with fair skin and red hair, blue, green or hazel eye colors. They appear in the early stages of life and proliferate in summer and subside in winter.

Freckles occur on areas that are mostly exposed to the sun, such as the face, hands, chest and back. These brown spots are caused by the buildup of melanin, a pigment produced by the skin. The amount of melanin present in the body determines the tone of individuals' skin colors. When exposed to the sun, the skin produces more melanin as a reaction to reduce damage from UV rays. This causes melanin accumulation, thus causing freckle formation.

Freckles may be similar to age spots (lentigines). However, age spots appear later in life and can occur on all types of skin.

Freckle treatment is often performed for cosmetic reasons. The aim of freckle treatment is to eliminate freckles and sometimes reduce their color and prominence. After freckle treatment, recurrences may occur with sun exposure. There are many freckle treatments available today. Each freckle treatment method provides benefits at different levels. The most successful freckle treatments are those performed with laser. The best results are obtained in people with fair skin. It is beneficial to give a test shot to people with dark skin.

Laser freckle treatment is mostly applied to the face area. Cheeks, nose, cheekbones, upper lips, forehead, chin and ears are the areas where freckles are frequently observed. Apart from this, freckles or sunspots can also be seen on the sun-exposed neck, décolleté, upper chest, shoulders, back, arms and hands, and the treatment of the lesions here can also be done with laser.
