Actinic Keratosis

Actinic Keratosis
These small bumps on the skin with a rough surface usually occur in areas constantly exposed to the sun, mostly on the face, scalp and neck, forearms, upper chest and hands. Due to the low risk of actinic keratoses turning into skin cancer (squamous cell carcinoma), the epidermis should be monitored with regular scans and examined by a dermatologist. The diagnosis of actinic keratosis is confirmed by looking with a dermoscope. People with fair skin are at higher risk for actinic keratosis. The best way to prevent the formation of these precancerous lesions is to carefully protect yourself from the sun.
Actinic keratosis is skin changes that reflect abnormal cell development on the skin, seen in the most sun-exposed areas due to long-term uncontrolled sun exposure.
Depending on the patient's condition, Diclofenac gel, Imiquimod cream, Fluorouracil cream can be chosen. Treatment duration is determined according to the findings.
Laser treatment: Actinic keratosis is treated by removing the upper surface of the skin with lasers. After treatment, the area heals after 1-2 weeks.
